we didnt even attempt anything in v005 because of the difficulty, and we were expecting the same from ultimative but all of the quests and challenges seem much easier. I gotta say, the v005 uberquests felt a tad unbalanced compared to the new ubers and challenges. she's never played any games like this, and it's just the two of us doing different character builds almost every week. First, we played vanilla D2 about 6 months ago (several character builds, all difficulties each, many sleepless nights!), and then found the median 2012 v005 and played that for a couple of months (same thing, many builds on all difficulties), and discovered that there was a NEWER version of median, so we started playing that last week. You have to have D2 1.13c (it can even be one without a CD-key, although D2 keys are like 5$ and you should buy one), median XL mod, and download a registry file from their website to play online, but it works with some other mod i found that vastly increases the storage space called PlugY. The biggest problem with this game is the barrier to entry (and the shit graphics, probably mostly the shit graphics), and I think thats why nobody plays it online. The story is very engrossing, and Decard Cain has the greatest voice of all time. I'm not sure assassin was the best class to start with, but I'm managing along ok. Each class seems to have like 4-5 viable builds to take, maybe more, and the mod has all sorts of items I've seen in the documentation that make me want to restart and play something else without even finishing my current class. There is just something exhilarating about playing a game with so many options. I never played Diablo 2 and I've been playing this mod for the past few days, I'm only on act 3 (currently getting fucked by angry monkey kings, theres no way vanilla D2 was this hard, how did you 10 year old warriors beat this shit?) but I wish that more games/mods would strive to do what this game has done. Median XL is a mod of diablo 2 that is incredibly fun. The creator of median XL is still working on making this game as excellent as possible. Here's the thing about old games, whenever they're decent, there's always some guy that goes and makes them excellent with mods.
